PROGRAMME BIOGRAPHY (for copying and pasting by programme compilers) UPDATED September 28th 2009 Grammy nominated Anthony Inglis, the artist who has featured more times at London’s Royal Albert Hall than anyone else in the building’s history, has been described in the UK press as “one of Britain’s most popular conductors” (Manchester Evening News). He leads a busy international career, appearing with some of the greatest orchestras in concert halls from New Zealand to Scotland via Japan and The East. These orchestras include the four main London independent orchestras: London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonic and Philharmonia orchestras, all the British independent and most BBC orchestras, the Melbourne, Sydney, Gothenburg, Singapore symphony orchestras and the Warsaw and Israel philharmonic orchestras. For 15 years he was well known as the conductor of Classical Spectacular and he is currently Music Director of The National Symphony Orchestra in London, the Welsh mezzo Katherine Jenkins and the Music Consultant for Phantom of The Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre. In the world of opera, he has conducted at The Gothenburg Opera House and regularly conducts national and international singers. In ballet he has conducted all three Tchaikovsky ballets for Birmingham Royal Ballet and English National Ballet.
Mr. Inglis was educated on a Music Scholarship at Marlborough College, and at the Royal College of Music where he won many conducting prizes. During his college years he supplemented his student grant conducting West End shows and being on the staff for two of Ken Russell’s composer films (he was also the high tenor voice heard in the pub scene in the cult film The Wicker Man). Afterwards he began his career with European orchestras, almost immediately appearing on BBC Television with the Ulster Orchestra, and making videos with the Philharmonia Orchestra at The Royal Festival Hall and The Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra at The Concertgebouw. He gives many concerts every year around the world and has conducted five royal concerts: a dance gala with The Royal Ballet Sinfonia in the presence of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, two concerts with the Royal Philharmonic in the presence of HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the naming ceremony for the world’s largest liner The Queen Mary 2; and two with the London Philharmonic in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales in aid of Farmers and the Naming Ceremony for Cunard’s latest liner the Queen Victoria. He has a successful career lecturing about music on board Cunard's liners and an annual engagement to take his orchestra on board one of the ships giving a series of concerts with them.
His studio, TV and concert recordings have been broadcast in the UK, Australia, Scandinavia, Europe and The Far East. He has made recent DVD recordings with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and two with Katherine Jenkins and the National Symphony and his discography includes recordings with: London Symphony (1993 Grammy nominated), London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Israel Philharmonic, Warsaw Philharmonic, London Mozart Players, Slovack Philharmonic, Santa Cecilia Orchestra Rome, Bournemouth Symphony, Cracow Radio Symphony, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Prague Sinfonia and Netherlands Radio Symphony. In 2005 he conducted the Royal Philharmonic at the largest regular live TV show in Europe called Wetten Dass.
He lives by the banks of the River Thames in Kingston Surrey, with his wife and three children. Further information on Mr. Inglis can be found at www.anthonyinglis.com |
